Pinterest Love

Here is my latest project thanks to Pinterest.  If you haven't yet signed up for Pinterest, definitely give it a shot.  Its fabulous!  I can get lost for hours looking at fun DIY projects, recipes, and more.  What I love the most is that it sources the original websites so you always have a reference.

My version of silhouettes.  A bit more modern with the gray rather than black.  And a little purposeful entryway organization for the kids jackets and backpacks.  This is the small wall between the front door and hall closet.  It was begging for something useful and pretty.

So, on to Pinterest I went and browsed ideas.  At first I was using the frames for the kids artwork.  But that quickly was not the smartest idea.  The frames kept falling off the wall with every opening of the door.  They just weren't heavy enough.  So, the silhouette idea was perfect.  Plus, it allowed me to add some color to the space.  I love red and it works with the other colors in my house. The fabric was a leftover table runner that I had already cut up to use on a cork board in the kitchen.  The frames and paint I already had, so it was just a matter of painting and assembling.

First, I took the kids pictures on a blank wall.  Then printed the pictures out on card stock.  Used a sharpie to trace around their heads and cut them out.  Flipped them over and painted them.  Used one very thin coat of gray on the black frames so the black would show through and give it a vintage look.  Glued the fabric to the back on the mats and the silhouettes in the center of it all.  And presto....personalized decor!

PS:
Please excuse the wall color.  1970 is calling asking for their beige back!  It's a rental house and I have yet to tackle the walls.
