Charleston Coupon Club

I am working on forming a Charleston Coupon Club where couponers (advance and new) can come and trade coupons, share deals, and help others.  No membership fees, no formal meetings.  Just enjoying the company of others who are like-minded.

I've gotten permission from the Lowcountry Food Bank to host meetings at their facilities in N. Charleston.  I thought the Food Bank would be ideal in helping to remind all of us to share our deals with others who are trying to put food on the table for themselves and their families.  The old rule we were taught in kkindergarten...."do onto others as you would have done to you".

So, there are some options and I'd like your input.

1.  What day in the week works best for you?

2.  Would you like to meet during the day or evening?

3.  Are you interested in coupon trading?

Please leave a comment below with your answers so I can get a better idea of how to proceed with our first meeting!

Coupons for the Troops

Just a quick end of the month reminder about saving your expired coupons for our overseas military families!  This is a great way to give back to those men and women and their families who help protect us so far from home.  You can either ask for a Coupon for the Troops box or check out this website to send your own in.  Another idea is to contact anyone you know serving overseas and ask for their base address to donate.

If you want a box and sign for your church or school, please feel free to email me and I can drop one off.  I normally will do a pickup 2x per month.

House on the Market

So, today was a cluster of a day!  Pouring down rain, no power at my studio, and a lost debit card.  But, putting all of that aside, the positives were 2 house showings!  If you are new to the blog, or haven't had time to catch up, my husband and I have decided to sell our home and move into something smaller.  It's just one step in trying to reduce our expenses and live simpler.  The house just listed on MLS yesterday, so this was a pleasant start to the process.  Now praying for good vibes with potential buyers :)

Part of my couponing passion came about when George and I finally decided we had just had enough with the rat race we have been living and I started to explore ways to live on less.  As big Dave Ramsey followers, we are working on our debt snowball and hope to be completely debt free in 3-5yrs.  If you haven't read or heard Dave Ramsey speak about finances, I HIGHLY encourage you to take a look at his website or books.  It has really transformed the way I think about money and my life.  I am not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, and I've made plenty of financial mistakes.  I think there are many out there in our same situation, but too afraid or embarrassed to do anything about it.  My goal is to learn from those mistakes and solve the problem....to pay off all our debt!  Plus, teach my kids the "keeping up with the Jones's" isn't what is going to make you happy or financially successful.

So, coupons are now a way of life.  My kids now know what the coupon binder is and they ask to help me clip the coupons.  We are also working on chores and money management with my 5yr old.  We gave him his chore board money ($3) the other day, then headed to Target.  He is very much into robots and transformers right now and really wanted to get a transformer with his money.  Both George and I asked him to tell us to read the prices on the toys so he could slowly understand that $10 was more than what he had.  We offered him dollar spot coloring books or crayons, but also told him about saving his money for the toy he really wanted.  Though a little disappointed, he decided on no purchase and talks about saving his money for the transformer.  It made us both very proud!

While I know the sale will take some time, I also know that George and I are serious about our commitment to getting rid of debt.  And in the process, a huge amount of stress in our lives.  We believe in prayer and one another, and that is what will make the difference.

Easter Printable

Have Easter baskets to fill???  Grab this HOT Easter printable for $2/2 Mars Easter Products!  This would be a great one to use on the Walgreens Snickers Egg singles that are on sale for $.29each this week.  That means you could grab 7 for only $.03!  Who am I kidding....I might go grab some more :)  Or hold on to it and wait for some other deals sure to come.

Jewlery Groupon

So what girl doesn't like jewelry???  Easy answer, we ALL like jewelry!  Well, if you like to grab a deal, today's Charleston Groupon is for you.  It's $15 for $30 worth of jewelry at one of my favorite stores, Hand Picked.  They have a great selection of silver and natural stone pieces as well as accessories like handbags, platters, and more.  What's even better is that the store is very reasonably priced, so your $30 will get you a nice quality piece of jewelry.  They have locations in Mt Pleasant or Downtown.

There are a few rules.  They are for in-store purchases and you cannot use them on sale items.  You can purchase up to 3 groupons, but can only use 1 for yourself and can gift 2.

Happy Tuesday!

FREE Snickers Easter Singles

Today in my venture to Walgreens, I scored a great deal!  If you were lucky enough to get a $1/2 Mars product coupon in the Sunday paper, then you are able to get 3 Snickers single Easter eggs for FREE!  I only had 1 left since I used the others on the M&M deal last week.

This week, the Snickers Easter Egg Singles are on sale for $.29 each.  So, you can get 3 for FREE.  I grabbed 4, just in case the register "beeped" at me....which it did, but the nice cashier pushed through.  So, I got 4 single eggs for $.16 (or $.04 each).  SCORE!

With 3 kids to do Easter baskets for, this was a great buy for me!

On a side note, I am getting very frustrated with Walgreens.  Too many coupon and RR rules to keep straight.  Not sure I'll shop there in the future.  Anybody else have success at Walgreens?  Let me know and post a comment.

Restaurant.com Deal - Good Till 3/31

Here is another great deal for eating out!  In honor of 100,00 Likes on Facebook, Restaurant.com is offering 80% off gift certificates with the coupon code TASTY.  As an added bonus, they are offering a $10 Restaurant.com e-gift card for every purchase.

That means you can get at $25 gift card for $2-$3.50 PLUS $10 towards your next gift card purchase!  This is a sweet deal that you can use for date night, family night out, guests in town, or just trying a new place.  I just donated a $25 gift card to La Forchette that I got for $3.50 (the last time they did 80% off) for a church silent auction.

Make sure to check the rules to each restaurant, as they vary widely.  There are great places all over Charleston that participate....8 pages to be exact.  Many are out of stock right now, so hoping that they are able to restock by Thursday :)

This Week's Haul

So, its been a while since I posted a picture of my weekly runs and with Harris Teeter's Super Double week, I thought I'd make the extra effort.  I went overboard in shopping trips this week, but I was running low of a few things in the pantry and freezer, so the goal was restocking.  I try and restock at the lowest price and get enough to last the 6-12week sale cycle that many products follow.

Here was my haul today and how it all breaks down.......

BiLo:
(2) 1gallon milk

Retail:  $5.00 (sale price)
Coupons Used:  $0.00
OOP:  $5.00 + tax

Harris Teeter:
(2) Propel, 24 oz
 (2) Hidden Valley Dressings
(3) Wonka Candy Bars
(3) Idahoan Potatoes
(2) HT Unsalted Butter
(6) Kraft Shredded Cheese
(2) Polly-O String Cheese

Retail:  $59.40
Sale Pricing + Coupons Used:  $38.06
OOP:  $21.34 + tax

Publix:
(1) Friendship Sour Cream
(1) 4lb Pork Loin
(6) Betty Crocker Fruit Shapes
(3) Idahoan Potatoes
(4) Zatarains Rice Mixes
(2) Kraft Shredded Cheese
(2) Krafts Chunk Cheese
(3) Capri Sun 8pks
(3) Peter Pan Peanut Butter

Retail:  $66.76
Sale Pricing + Coupons Used:  $39.75
OOP:  $27.01 + tax
*one thing to note....the pork loin was $8, and we will cut it in half for 2 dinners, so without that splurge, it would have been around $20*

Total Retail:  $131.16
OOP:  $53.35
Total Savings:  $77.81 or 59%

What you don't see is that I also made a runs to BiLo (sunday) Harris Teeter (wednesday), CVS (sun & mon) and Walgreens (sun & thurs) this week.  Yes, I know that is alot of trips, but I am in the car most mornings anyway with meetings and running the kids to preschool and back, so its not that much time or out of my way.  Most of this was groceries, but we did get a few toiletries, diapers, and pullups as well.  I will most likely opt to NOT go shopping next week and live out of the pantry.

Weekly Retail:  $349.28
Weekly OOP:  $155.65
(over by $30.65 for my weekly budget)
Weekly Savings:  $193.63 or 55.44%

Free Kids Bowling

So how many of us in the Lowcountry hate to venture out in the heat of the summer with the kids?  I know I do....especially since my kids have that Irish skin that burns in 5 minutes in the sun!  Well, here is a great solution.

Head over to www.kidsbowlfree.com to sign up for Free Kids Bowling passes.  My husband loves to bowl and even took all 3 kids one Saturday afternoon while I was setting up a wedding.  I was in amazement and he said they LOVED it!

In SC there are plenty of lanes that are participating.  I signed up for the one at Twin River Lanes in Mount Pleasant, as that is the closest to us in West Ashley.  Plus they offer bumpers....bonus :)

There are limited passes, so sign up quick.  You can even add on a family pass for $24.95 which lets 4 adults bowl 2 games every day for the participating months.  That is over $1000 in bowling, a 98% savings!  Only thing you will need to do is rent shoes, but most lanes let kids go with just socks, so make sure and ask.

High Value Razor Coupon

Head over to Bic's Facebook Page and "Like" them to receive a $3/1 Bic Soleil Bella Razor 3pk.  This is a great coupon to combo with a drug store rewards program.  Hold on to it till the deal comes around.  I like to stock up on any razors we can find.  We are not brand specific, so that helps us save a ton of money!

Parents Magazine - $1 for entire year

Parents - One Year Subscription: Magazine Cover

This is a great deal over at Barnes & Noble.  Get one year subscription to Parents magazine for only $1!  Use the coupon code K4M8W9D at checkout.

This is a great deal for any parents out there.  They cover all age groups and always have some fun activities, crafts, and more in each issue.  There are a few coupons in each issue as well as online coupon codes inside as well!

Target Free Beauty Bag

If you were lucky enough to sign up for Target's Free Beauty Bag about a month ago, then get ready for your surprise in the mailbox!

Mine just came today and I couldn't help but take a picture of the cute items inside.  Plus, there is a great coupon booklet inside with Target coupons, which can be stacked with manufacturer coupons at Target or some Publix stores, so this will make for some really inexpensive beauty items soon.  Very excited as this is a great cue for me to "spring clean" my makeup case and get some new fresh items.

Coupon Policy Reminder - Walgreens

So, today was lesson in what I need to do different when heading to the drug stores for deals....plan my scenarios out ahead of time and have the coupon policy printed out!  While I didn't do badly, I could have done MUCH better if I had remembered one small rule at Walgreens

You cannot use a RR you got on product "x" to get a second RR on the same product "x".

Here was my scenario.  I did have to make an adjustment while in the store, because I had wanted the Reach toothbrush deal, but they had no more in stock.

Transaction #1
(1) Almay eyeshadow - $5.59
(2) Single pack of Skittles - $.49 each
(2) Comet cleanser, 14oz - $.50 each
Used:
-$5 RR (got this on an Almay mascara I got on Sunday)
-$2/1 Almay cosmetic
(2) - $.35/1 Comet product

OOP:  $.65
Got Back:  nothing
Here is where I got in trouble.  I anticipated a $5 RR for the Almay product, but because I used a RR for another Almay product, so it did not print out.

Transaction #2:
(2) Easter M&M's- $2.50 each
(2) 2000 Flushes  - $3.99, B1G1
Used:
-$1 M&M Walgreen coupon
-$1/2 Easter M&M products
-$1/1 2000 Flushes product

OOP:  $6.75
Got Back:  nothing
again, keep in mind that I anticipated having a $5RR from the above Almay to use, so I spent more here than I wanted.

All in all it was not bad.  I spent about $7 for over $26 in products.  I even wanted to do another deal for the Schick Intuition Razors, but got flustered and stopped here.  I really wanted the M&M's and 2000 Flushes.

Lesson learned, PLAN AHEAD!  Walgreens has many more restrictions on their coupons and RR, so I will definitely need to plan my scenarios out ahead of time.  Or wait till I see the sales at CVS, where the policy is a bit more straight forward!

SUPER DOUBLES

Hey guys!  Today starts Harris Teeter's Super Doubles Coupon Week.  I know lots of you are trying to master Harris Teeter, so here are some quick tips on how to make it easy on yourself.  You can also head over to the Grocery Stores link above and read the full coupon policy.

1.  During Super Doubles, they will double any coupon up to $1.98

2.  They only accept 1 coupon for B1G1 items.
So just grab one item to maximize your coupon and dollars.

3.  They only double 20 coupons per day per VIC card.
This is a big one, so remember not to make your list too long.  I count out my coupons before I go to make sure I am maximizing my trip.  I only get 20 items and use 20 coupons.  This will require multiple trips, but its definitely worth it.

There are some great deals in this week's ad with lots of FREE items (with coupons).  I will list out my trip later today if I get a chance to go.  Have a meeting this morning with a client and hoping I can get over to the store before I need to be home.  Please send me your trips and pictures so I can post your savings!

Happy Couponing!

Free Scrubbing Bubbles

Here is a link to a great coupon for a B1 Scrubbing Bubbles Toliet Cleaning Gel and get a Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush Starter or Refill.  I was able to print this once, but it sure will come in handy!  I hate cleaning toliets and with 3 boys in the house, it is a daily duty :)  Plus, the house is going on the market this weekend, so the gel will keep things fresh.

Awesome link!

Thanks, Ashley

Stockpiling Produce....Pros and Cons

Many people ask what is in my stockpile and how to save on their grocery bill.  I think the biggest mistake most families make is writing a list of what they "need" before looking at what is on sale and planning their menu accordingly.  Rather than look in the pantry, fridge, or freezer and write a list of what you don't have, take the time to go through the weekly flyers and see what is on sale.  Maybe you do without steaks or chicken breast this week.  Instead make beef stew and roasted chicken because stew beef and whole fryers are on sale.

Produce can be another budget buster for many.  Recently, a friend found an article about storing produce and buying it in bulk to save.  She asked me to post about what I do to save on produce.  I have a simple answer....buy what is on sale.  Yes, its that easy.  When you buy in-season veggies and fruits, you can spend less and waste less.

In my family, we go through fresh fruit like it is going out of style.  My kids would rather have a fruit than a veggie on their plates for dinner.  Although carrots are a big winner as well on the dinner menu.  I tend to buy whatever is on sale and in season.  If we go without strawberries one week, no big deal.  Maybe I buy strawberry yogurt instead.

One trick you can do for storing fruits and veggies that are in season and on sale is to buy more than a weekly supply and freeze a portion.  There is no difference between chopping up your strawberries, apples, onions, or peppers yourself and freezing them versus buying it frozen already.  You pay for convenience, so just measure what it is worth to you.  Most produce is good up to 6 mos in the freezer.  Consider fruit in smoothies or baked goods, and your veggies in anything you stew, braise, or soup.

For me, I am headed to the grocery store once per week anyway, so it doesn't make sense for me to buy more than a week's supply of produce.  I like to have that rotate through the fridge and pantry and most times is allows me to come up with new menu ideas.  If you are someone that doesn't get to the store often, then try buying larger quantities and freezing.  Even if you spend one evening per week chopping and freezing, it will prove to be a money (and time) saver.

Charleston Groupon = Date Night!

Seriously considering this local Groupon for a date night!  With so many locations, King Street Grille is a great option!  George and I are huge pub or sports bar fans (we love anything college sports related).  We try and plan "happy hour" date nights to save money.  Give it a try, we have a great time and don't spend more than $50 with specials on drinks and food!

Milk Deal

Scanning through the weekly grocery flyers and noticed this great deal on milk at BiLo!

Pet Milk, 1 gallon (select varieties)
$2.88 each or $5/2 ($2.50 each)

Considering milk is averaging around $3.49/gallon, this is a great deal.
Buy multiple and freeze them for cooking.

Pantry Pictures

I've had many comments about stockpiling and pantry pictures, so I decided to clean and organize and show you what my pantry looks like.  It's not always the most organized, but it works for our family.  the main shelves are our "everyday" items.  Things the kids can reach and I can quickly grab.
As you can see, the pantry is not more than a small closet with shelving.  No custom shelving, no walk-in, no 2 car garage full of product.  Just your basic pantry.

What I do have is the advantage of a tall ceiling in this space.  This is where I store the oversized stockpile items.  Just below it is where I store the jarred stockpile items.  This is really about a 1 or 2 supply, nothing outrageous.  You need to keep in mind your space allotment.

Right now, in the stockpile I have......

4 boxes of wheat thins
1 canister of oatmeal
5 packets of oatmeal
4 bottles of salad dressing
12 boxes of macaroni noodles
2 boxes of brown rice
1 box of white rice
2 packets of jasmine rice
4 bags of chex mix
2 boxe of tollhouse crackers
1 bag of barley
2 cans of Pam cooking spray
14 boxes of cereal
2 jars of pickles
4 cans of diced tomatoes
4 jars of salsa
3 jars of mayo
3 bags of chips

Not in the pantry, but stashed in my laundry room is....

2 12pk toliet paper
1 8pk paper towels
2 20ct garbage bags
4 20ct dishwasher tablets
4 bottles dishwashing soap
1 200ct napkins
3 180ct fabric softener sheets
8 32load bottles laundry detergent

This is by far a "stocked" pantry.  I am still learning.  My goal is to have 6mos worth of supplies.  But at least its a start.

Old Orchard B1G1 Coupon

Head over to Old Orchard on Facebook and "Like" their page.  Then, click on the coupon link and print out this great B1G1 coupon.  There is a limited amount, so grab it quick!

They are on sale at Publix this week for $1.50 each.  So, I was able to print 2 coupons (by hitting the back button on the bricks.coupons page) and grabbed 4 for $3 or $.75 each!  I keep them in my freezer for "emergency" juice when I run out of apple juice in the pantry.

Top CVS Deals - 3/20

Here are my top CVS Deals starting on 3/20.  I typically only go for the ECB deals unless there is something I can get free with a coupon.  I use my ECB's for things we need regularly like pull-ups, diapers, or wipes or roll them into the following week's purchase.

This week I don't have any ECB's to use since I was in need of pull-ups last week.  Thankfully, my 3yr old daughter is mastering the potty, so I am hopeful we won't need pull-ups much longer!

There are plenty of other deals as well, so check out the weekly ad preview for anything that you might like.

Free Paper (for coupons of course!)

I've had a bunch of requests about how to save money printing coupons, since paper and ink are so expensive.  Well, here it is.....

Starting on Sunday, you will be able to snag FREE HP paper!  This is a great way to stockpile paper for coupon printing, school projects, or arts and crafts.

HP Multipurpose Paper 8.5x11 - $5.99

When I'm not Couponing.....

Thought I'd break up the day and show you guys what I do when I'm not couponing.  My full time gig is owning an event and floral design studio and I primarily work on weddings.  Here is a picture of my floral design studio today.

This is only the front table and we have loads of centerpieces all over the place.  Two weddings tomorrow, which is the norm, so Fridays and Saturdays are my "no couponing" days.  Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and enjoys the beautiful weather!

Charleston Angler Deal

The-charleston-angler

This is a great Groupon today supporting a local business!  You can get a $40 gift card to Charleston Angler for $20.  For anyone who is an a novice or avid fishermen, this is a great deal.  They have a ton of gear, apparel, and more.  The one down side is that it isn't valid on sale items.

Think I'll pick up one for the hubbie since he loves to fish and be on the water (when he can find the time).  Plus, I occassionally will need heavy duty fishing line to hang lanterns and this is the only place in town to grab it.  Love it when its dual purpose :)

3/16 Grocery Store Match-ups

It's Wednesday again and the new grocery store ads.  Being new to the blogging and coupon match-up world, I am going to sit out trying to repeat what others are doing WAY better than me.

Below are the links to our local store match-ups from the #1 southeastern coupon blog....Southern Savers.  Jenny and her team get the match-ups out fast and its where I go to create my shopping lists.  This week I am going to try and hit BiLo, Publix, and Harris Teeter.  It might be wishful thinking with a busy work weekend, and my youngest sick, but I'll try.  There isn't a ton we need other than produce, but its worth heading out to build on the stockpile with $1 or less items.

Let me know how you guys do this week or if you see a great deal not listed.  Leave a comment below!

Stockpiles vs Hoarding

About two months ago, TLC aired a new pilot called "Extreme Couponing".  It featured 4 "extreme couponers" and a trip with each of them to the grocery store to view their techniques and purchases.  George and I watched....accidently I might add.  We are not huge tv people, but I do love me some HGTV and Food Network and George is partial to anything Clemson sports related.  Funny how the show was timed in our lives.  I had just gotten heavy into the couponing and blog reading, so it was (and is) very relevant to our lives.

After the show, we got into a pretty good discussion on stockpiles vs hoarding.  George was not fully "on board" with the couponing, so our talk was so very helpful in airing out what I saw as the advantages and for him to express concerns about overspending.

Here is what I see as the difference.  Stockpiling has a goal and is organized.  Hoarding has no purpose (other than to fulfill a selfish desire) and is not organized.  How many times have you seen hoarding on tv.  Is it ever organized in a clear, thought out way?  NO!  The opposite is true of those that stockpile and coupon.  Our stockpiles are thought out and organized.  Those that hoard have no purpose with their purchases.  They just like the "thrill" of the hunt and purchase.  Those of us who stockpile our pantries have a goal.....store enough food for our families in case of an emergency...plain and simple.

Emergencies can be small or large and everyones definition is different.  What happens if you lose your job and your income?  Don't think it can't happen to you.  In this economy, it can happen to ANYONE!   I'd consider that a small emergency.  George and I have been through losses of jobs and I would have LOVED to know about couponing and stockpiles when we were going through that.  Would have saved us a ton of stress and money.  What about a natural disaster?  Hurricanes are common in our neck of the woods, but tornados, earthquakes, floods, and more can happen anywhere.  Just look at what Japan is suffering through right now.  Wouldn't you like to know that you had a way to feed your family if something like that happened to you?  I know I would.  Therefore, I stockpile.

In today's world, we call it stockpiling when we buy in bulk and store it in our pantries, cellars, or garages.  Generations ago (think your grandparents) farming, canning, and food cellars were common and the norm.  What got us away from that thinking?  Maybe convienence, smaller properties, fast paced life, or all of the above.  No matter what the circumstance, talk with your family.  See what works for you, what makes sense for your life.  You will be amazed at the sense of relief and reward you will feel!

McCormick Spice Deal

There is a great deal on McCormick spices coming up this week (3/18-4/10) at Harris Teeter and BiLo.  If you purchase 2, you will get a coupon for $1.50 your next order or purchase 3 and get $2.50 your next order.  These are manufacturer coupons and will print at the Catalina machines, so should be good at any grocery store.

Making this deal so good is the $1/1 coupon that was in our Post & Courier RedPlum insert!  This coupon is better than the $.50/1 McCormick coupon that RedPlum is offering on their website.  Love it when we get the premium coupons!  This will make for a great deal or even free spices on the smaller sizes.  So go grab all the inserts you can find from friends and clean out the spice drawers!

MIA this weekend

I apologize for being MIA in posting this weekend.  First wedding setup of the spring season and (more importantly) I've been prepping for getting the house ready to go on the market!  Yes, we are doing the deed and moving into a smaller house.  We haven't found the "new house" yet, but plan on renting for awhile to work on the debt snowball.  Our goal is to find a 3bd, 2bath house.  Something in the same area we are in now, with a good school district since our oldest is headed into kindergarten this fall.  We are lucky, with 2boys and 1 girl, the boys can bunk together and have a pullout for any guests.

George and I have a 3-4yr goal set.  Pay off all the debt and get to a point in our lives where we can start saving for our dream.....lots of land and building (or renovating) our own home.  George and I both have BS in Horticulture from Clemson, so we love to be in the yard.  We would love enough land to have a kitchen garden, play area, and I'd love a cutting garden.  It is important to us to teach our kids where food comes from....the land, not the grocery store.  Plus, I'd love to try my hand at raising chickens, pigs, and more.  Funny to think I grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia!

Ok, enough of my daydreaming.  I'll get together my weekly finds and budget tomorrow.  I can already say that I probably went over.  I hit BiLo, Teeter, and CVS last week.  BiLo was the biggest bill.  I got some bulk meat, produce, milk, etc.....all for the Fuelperks.  With gas as high as $3.50 here in Charleston, I figured I'd get the necessities where I could reap the best benefit....the gas pump!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!

Baby Steps

Met with a friend for lunch yesterday and we talked COUPONS!  It was one of the best lunch dates I've had in years.  Someone else who can appreciate my love and obssesion :)  We spent a wonderful 1.5hrs talking kids, coupons, and life.  The food was fabulous too (Glass Onion, Savannah Hwy, check it out)!

"C" has mastered the CVS "game", but groceries are her hang up.  In fact, I'm hoping that she is able to share her deals at CVS weekly with me so I can post the savings.  In turn, I was able to share some tips about the grocery stores to help her.

I find that my friends frustrations are common among so many people.  There is so much information out there, that it can overwhelm you.  My advice.....BABY STEPS, start small!  Pick one store, study and learn its coupon policy.  It will take about a month, with weekly trips...sometimes two per week, to get your groove.  Start with small lists, and work your way into a larger list.  I find the small victories are the most rewarding.  Then, once you have mastered that store, move on to the next.

As I've stated before, I'm a fan of Publix and shopped there before couponing, so it was a natural progression for me.  I mastered their policy first, then moved on to BiLo and Harris Teeter.  I am working on CVS, Target, and Walgreens right now.

On a given week, I probably hit about 3 stores.  I know that is unrealistic for many, but that is what I am able to make time for.  As wedding season and my work hits full swing, I will only be able to manage 1-2 stores.  Be realistic for what you have time to do.  Remember your time is worth its weight in gold!  Whether it be spending time with your family, having a moment to yourself, or working, your time is valuable.  So don't try to do it all in a week!  Something I have to remind myself everyday.........

Wallet & Kid Friendly Dining

If you are headed out to eat with your kids, check out this South Carolina website, Out to Eat with Kids, first!  Great resource for family friendly joints where you can save your pennies and enjoy good food.  You will be surprised at how many restaurants participate in at least 1 night of kids eating free.

Bubble Juice

In our house, bubbles are a BIG thing!  My kids love to go outside and just watch how big they can make the bubbles and dance as they float around in the breeze.  It is actually one of my most favorite things to watch as a parent.  Pure child joy!

Well, with little ones, bubble juice (as it is called by my kids) does not last long.  Spills happen almost instantly.  And yes, I know you can find bubbles at the Dollar Store or Target for cheap, but why spend the money?  Its alot of packaging and not alot of product.

My solution....try my hand at a homemade version.  Here is the recipe that I used.  It works well and it probably cost me $.10 to make.  That is a whole lot more bubble juice than what I can get for $1 :)

2 cups water
1/2 cup dishwashing soap (dawn, palmolive, etc)
2 T sugar

Place in a measuring cup, still to dissolve the sugar and put in your favorite container.  Can even add food coloring for fun.  The picture above is with antibacterial palmolive, hence the color.  Found a 20 pack of different shaped wands at Target for $3.29 that we use throughout the year.  If the wands get dirty, just rinse them in a sink with warm water and a capful of bleach to disinfect them.

Chicken Piccata-ish Recipe

From another one of my favorite blogs, a great lemon chicken recipe!  It's like she was reading my mind when I pulled out the chicken breasts for dinner tonight.  Thanks Jenna!

Check out Jenna's blog, Jenna Cooks.  It has some great fast and easy recipes with stuff we all have in our pantry or fresh produce you can find at the local grocery store or farmstand.  She really knows her stuff.
